MechFS has donated valuable funds to charity supporting victims of domestic violence and abuse in the Doncaster borough.
Charity and community sit right at the heart of MechFS and never has this been more critical as we all face difficult and challenging times caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Phoenix WoMens Aid is a charity that supports Women, Men and Children who are victims and survivors of domestic violence and abuse, by providing safe accommodation on both a long term and short-term basis.
Since the charity opened their three refuges (December 2019, April 2020 and June 2020) they have received 35 referrals (18 women and 17 men) with an associated 24 children. Of these 35 referrals, 24 have been during the Coronavirus pandemic.
With 15 spaces in total, the refuges can accommodate 6 families and 9 single people and is one of the first domestic abuse charities to offer male only refuge in the area. MechFS’ donation will cover the core costs of one of the larger refuges for the next 6 months.
The Managing Director of Phoenix WoMens Aid explained, “Phoenix WoMen’s Aid provides emergency refuge accommodation and community-based support for women, men and their children who are living with, or fleeing from, domestic violence and abuse. Our refuge services are life-saving and the significant contribution towards our rent bill made by MechFS further supports the continuation of this vital service”.
Paul Sutherland, our CEO said “The Coronavirus pandemic has been extremely challenging for everyone and never has there been a more essential time for us to support the work of this crucial charity. We hope this will help Phoenix WoMens Aid continue their incredible work in providing both counselling and a safe, supportive environment for those who need them most”.
In addition, MechFS has introduced Phoenix WoMens Aid to one of our sub-contractors, Aegis Fire and Security, who have kindly donated and installed a fire alarm system. Managing Director, Chris Simpson said “When MechFS asked us if we would be able to help with the installation of the fire alarm system, we jumped at the opportunity to support such an important charity”.
