Jessica Chamberlain joined our team at MechFS in 2017 as our first-ever finance apprentice, marking our commitment to providing training and employment opportunities for young people, whatever area of the business they’re looking to work in. In our latest Meet the Apprentice blog, Jessica tells us more about her role.
“I wasn’t actively looking for an apprenticeship when the role at MechFS came up. I was working full time while studying for my Level 2 Accounting qualification around the job, but the opportunity seemed too good to miss.
“The role allows me to work in accounts, with the bonus of added study support – it’s the best of both worlds.
“I’m gaining experience in a huge range of accounting tasks, from coding and checking purchase invoices against purchase orders, to using Sage and checking weekly expenses and timesheets, all with the company’s full support.
“From daily tasks to exam preparation, everyone at MechFS is really helpful, welcoming and supportive.
“I know that if I ever need help, all I have to do is ask, and with each passed exam under my belt I know MechFS is as proud of me as I am of myself.
“Between the choices of full-time work, apprenticeships and full-time study, I’d always recommend an apprenticeship.
“If you’re given the opportunity, grab it with both hands and enjoy the experience. It’s the best route to gain the workplace skills you need, along with the qualifications to back it up.”
